What Are The Next Trends In Pop Star Apparel Going To Be?

By Otto On March 16, 2010 Under Business

It’s easy to look back and chronicle the past, but it’s not so easy to predict the future. That is true in finance and politics and it’s even truer in the world of entertainment.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a time machine that could take us into the future. We could all be experts in stocks and come back and make a fortune. It’s too bad the masters of Wall Street couldn’t do that. Then we might not be in the financial mess we’re in now. It’s kind of hard to believe their predictions now, after their past performances!

So much time, effort and debate goes into trying to forecast future economic trends. Our future depends on economics, but whether or not leather brown boots are going to be as popular in the future as they once were isn’t really going to change anything at all. If we can’t predict the important things, there’s not much chance that we can predict the unimportant things.

All it takes is one charismatic band to set a trend. Look what happened when the Beatles made their debut. Before they came along, no man would have hair that covered his ears. It was almost unheard of. But within a year of the release of the Beatles’ first album in the United States, young men everywhere had grown their hair out and they continued to let it grow for years.

Let’s say a new pop superstar named Jean Skinny arrives on the scene. Jean has an androgynous style of clothing. She wears men’s clothing and combs her hair like a man. It’s all subtly and carefully done, though, so she doesn’t look masculine.

There’s one more accessory that Jean is known for – it’s her black sport watch. She always takes off her jacket and rolls up her sleeves before she performs, so that big man’s watch stands out clearly on her wrist. It looks so good on her that wearing men’s watches becomes a worldwide fad. Girls everywhere throw away their feminine time pieces and go out and find the biggest men’s watches they possibly can.

While everything else about her costume has been carefully designed and chosen by top costume designers, her watch was not. It belonged to her Dad, who died suddenly just before he was able to see her reach stardom. She only wears it in homage to him.

She wasn’t trying to start a fad, it just happened. Nobody even knew the reason why she wore the watch until many years later. Her record label and manager had tried so hard to start a fashion trend, but it didn’t work. You simply can’t predict what will catch on and what won’t!
