Let's face it. There are so many marketing programs and models out there to choose from when running your business. How do you make sure you aren't spending your money on products and programs that aren't suited for you? Unfortunately, some of it is trial and error, and most of us have been there.
But my eyes were opened wide to how choosing the right organizations could make a huge difference in expanding my network, reaching my target market, and raising my profile. And it can do the same for you!
Â
3 simple ways you can raise your profile by joining an organization:
Â
Make it memorable. Your domain name should be easy to remember. You might register your name, your company name, and then a more creative (but simple) version of what you do or who you serve. Your website content should be memorable and useful as well. Features such as a blog or a resource page, when thoughtfully designed and well executed, will make an impression on the visitor.
Introduce yourself to the board, and stay in touch. I've grown so many business relationships and friendships just by getting to know the board members of an organization I join. And guess what? You stand out for making the effort, especially when you keep in touch, offer ideas, or provide valuable feedback to make their lives easier and the organization better. Those board members will think of you first when opportunities arise – it could be a speaking engagement, a new client opportunity, or a key introduction.Â
Core self-promotional strategies that reflect who you are and play to your strengths.
There are seven basic strategies you can use that will allow people to enter your sales cycle, get to know you, and ultimately buy your services if they are your ideal client and they feel an emotional connection to you.
- Networking – creating connections with others beyond simply making contacts.
- Direct outreach – creating connections to those who might be experts in your industry, or who may be able to help you – before you need them.
- Referrals – give referrals first.
- Website – create a way to begin a conversation with potential clients and offer something of value in exchange for their email address.
- Speaking – demonstrating your expertise to a group of ideal potential clients.
- Writing – creating online pieces that drive website traffic and offline pieces that build credibility.
- Keep in touch – keeping that connection with potential and current clients strong so you are remembered in a positive way.
This is a straightforward set of strategies that has worked in my business. When you have a strong foundation, continually build trust and credibility, and promote yourself in a way that reflects who you are, you will attract those people you're meant to serve
