Having Beautiful Teeth is no Mystery

Learn how to maintain beautiful teeth by developing a good relationship with your dentist

Do you want beautiful teeth? It may not be enough just to brush regularly! It takes more than just brushing and a good dental insurance plan to have beautiful teeth. Putting a little extra time into your teeth goes a long way and boy what a difference it makes on your smile. It’s possible to keep your teeth and mouth healthy for a lifetime by simply following some easy steps.
Here are some simple techniques for gorgeous teeth:

  • Understand what your teeth need in order to stay healthy. Don’t be put off by the cost of hygeinist visits, as any good dental insurance policy will cover the cost of these. Everyone is different and since we all have our own individual needs, it would be a good idea to speak with your dentist, or hygienist about any particular or out of the ordinary conditions in your mouth and any ways in which your medical/health conditions affect your teeth or oral health. They will then be able to tell you just what needs to be done to keep your teeth and mouth healthy and looking beautiful.
  • Your medical condition can affect your teeth. Be sure to tell you dentist if there have been any changes to your general health; pregnancy, heart disease, diabetes and cancer treatments can all have an affect on your dental health and may require a change to your oral care routine.
  • If you are taking any medicines or supplements – prescribed or otherwise – remember to tell your dentist about these. Medications can affect your teeth’s health, so be sure to tell your dentist if you have experienced a change in any medication you are currently taking since your last dental visit.
  • The key to helping your teeth to stay beautiful is to communicate with your dentist. It is important to maintain a good relationship with your dentist where you can feel comfortable to speak with them about any personal or important issues relating to your teeth and mouth. The best dental care and oral health advice can only be given when your dentist is aware of any issues which may be important.

Some helpful tips summarised

  •  Keep a journal with questions that you may want to ask your dentist.
  •  Remember to take the journal to your dentist’s office – because it is very frustrating  when we have questions in our head to ask and when we get there, we are so  preoccupied with other issues that we forget to ask.
  • If you are sick at the time of your visit do tell your dentist.
  •  Tell the dentist if you developed any medical/health issues recently.
  • Your dentist will need to know if there have been any changes in your regular medications.
  • Call your dentist immediately if you have any pain or inflammation in you mouth.

If you remember to communicate clearly with your dentist you will find it easier to maintain beautiful teeth. Do not be afraid to talk to your dentist - they are here to help you maintain healthy, beautiful teeth.
