Spains First Ever World Cup
Holland beaten by Spain in the Final of the World cup
The year 2010 will be remembered for two massive reason in the coming future. One because Spain won it’s first ever World cup and second being the first ever World cup hosted in African soil. Iker Casillas when interviewed by his beautiful fiance who was wearing a lovely silver jewellery pendant told the TV media that this was certainly one of the proudest moment of his career.
At the start of the World cup most bookmakers had Spain as one of the favourites to win the World cup but after their first game defeat everyone started doubting their chances. But all those critics were shown not to doubt this Spanish team after they beat Netherlands in the final of the World cup. It was a tactical battle and Holland did not play the game they normally play. Fouls interrupted the game and there were lots of it. Netherlands commited 28 fouls with 5 yellows and 1 red and Spain commited 19 fouls. Holland just sat back and counter attacked and Spain played the way they normally play.
Though Netherlands did have chances to score the goals when Robben was clean through one on one against Iker Casillas but Casillas saved both chances. The game ended nil – nil in full time and then in extra Andres Iniesta scored one of the most important goals in his career to seal the title for Spain. The celebration started shortly after when the final whistle went. Holland’s bench ran off towards the referee for not giving the foul or the corner before the goal. If he had given it a corner then Spain would have never scored but that’s life you have to move on from that. I thought overall the referee did pretty well not to send anyone off and keep it at 11 against 11.
Iker Casillas started playing for Spain since he was 19 years old and he is still only 29 and has already won 112 caps for Spain. Holding the trophy as a captain must be some feeling. After the match some Spanish players kissed their silver rings and silver bracelets in the memory of their loved ones. It was great scenes.
