Attract Wild Birds To Your Garden – Some Tips
There are many easy ways to attract wild birds to your garden. Provide food that they like and somewhere safe for them to feed. Bird feeders are perfect for providing food for them. During the winter, when food is hard to find they can be especially helpful.
Many different species can be attracted by providing their favorite foods. Finches are attracted to thistle bird feeders that hold the tiny seeds they love. Prevent spillage and keep seeds dry by using tube feeders. Watch the birds feed from the comfort of you home with a window bird feeder.
Attract woodpeckers,goldfinches and hummingbirds with specially designed bird feeders. Put them in a place that is safe for the birds and close to your birdhouse. Inspect the food in the feeder on a regular basis to make sure it is still dry and free from mold. Regularly clean up spilled food as it will attract wasps, ants and other pests.
Feeding during the winter is most beneficial for wild birds but shortages occur during other seasons as well. You can help the birds by putting out food all year around which will help when shortages occur. Temporary food shortages in the breeding season can have a severe effect on fledglings so provide them with with suitable food.
Provide them with a safe place to bathe or drink by providing water in pans or a garden bird bath. Water should be provided at different levels for different species of birds. Shallow dishes of water can be placed in quiet spots for the birds to clean their feathers, preen and drink. Running water sounds will attract the birds. Water drippers are great for attracting birds and they also deter mosquitoes from breeding in the water.
A natural environment in a part of the garden will increase the birds sense of security. Leaving an area to grow naturally with wild flowers and trees will provide an attractive place for them.
