Tips To Better Health Through Sports And Nutrition

When it comes to sports, high school is a place where teenagers easily get hurt. They either get their feelings hurt because a coach didn’t invite them to the team, or because he did invite them but never gave them a chance to play. But if something goes wrong, you can get physically hurt during the game.

It’s very easy for adolescents to get injured since their bodies are growing. If your child is into sports, you should explain to him the importance of the food he is eating and the general shape his body is in. Both will help prevent injuries and help him stay healthy. What follows are a few sports health tips.

It’s quite usual for a teenager playing football every day to burn off up to 5,000 calories. The more active they are, the more calories they burn off.

Extra protein (that big steak before the game) is not all that it’s cracked up to be. Teenagers who are playing football or other trauma sports do need a little more protein than average adults, but too much protein is not good for the body. And for goodness sake, don’t eat that big meal before the big game – eat it afterward. Sports are best played on an empty stomach – about three hours after a meal.

The most important element when it comes to your teenager’s health is water.

Make sure that teens drink a lot of milk since they need more calcium now. Also take care that they eat meals from all the food groups and that these meals are well balanced.

Teens who have a weight problem are usually not into team sports and they are not as physically active as their friends who are in a team. If this is the case with your child, he might need private counseling or therapy to be motivated to start exercising. Exercise is very important if they want to fight their weight problems.

It’s really important that you explain to your child that warming up before playing any sport is absolutely necessary. If they don’t warm up before play, they risk to be injured.

If there is a high amount of injuries in your school football league, make sure you investigate this. It usually happens because there are coaches who teach children to play violently.

When a sports-related injury happens to a teenager, he sometimes only goes to the coach without telling his parents. So you should keep an eye on your child and talk to him if you notice that something isn’t right.
