The Quail Hollow Championship Begins

By Otto On July 13, 2010 Under Recreation and Sports

The Quail Hollow Championship 2010 has begun, and normally people would care about the game of golf. However, golf coverage of late is only about Tiger Woods, and if you wonder, he is falling flat on his face. One Million Five Hundred Thousand is the payday for the winner of the PGA.

Quail Hollow Championship 2010

The Quail Hollow Championship 2010 is actually a new name. From 2003 to 2009, it was the Wachovia Championship, but that changed when Wells Fargo bought Wachovia. The tournament is held in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the Quail Hollow Club. According to the PGA Website, the winner of the Masters of the last two years has lost horribly at Quail Hollow, and Phil Mickelson is aiming to beat the curse.

Discussion about Tiger Woods

Since golf media is all about a cheating former prodigy, let’s get it out of the way. Tiger Woods finished, though he’s in danger of not making the cut, with a two over par. He’s currently tied for 102nd place. He landed several shots in the water and did not win the Masters this year. (Granted, he finished 11 under at the Masters, which isn’t bad.)

So whose leading?

Bo Van Pelt, from the PGA Leaderboard, is beating Quail Hollow like a red headed stepchild with a 7 under par. He sank a total of seven birdies on holes 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14 and 15. Billy Mayfair is behind him with four under, and also had seven birdies but three bogey. Masters Champion Phil Mickelson is tied for 12th with a modest brace of birdies and 2 under. It’s only the first round of the Quail Hollow Championship 2010, so it’s anyone’s tournament.
