The Three Most Important Swimming Pool Chemicals

One of the most important rules to observe is: never mix your pool chemicals. Equally important is not to add water to dry chemical. Finally, the most relevant piece of advice would be not to handle chemicals. At least not with your bare hands!
You need to consider the purchase of at least 3 types of chemical. There usage will be quite frequent, making these the most important.
- Chlorine tablets, which are generally available in 1 or 3 inch blocks. Place the chlorine tablets into the swimming pool skimmer. You would typically put up to 4 tablets in at the same time. It is advisable to change the tablets every week during the summer months.
- Alkaline powder. The chlorine helps to kill the nasty germs, at the same time raising acidity in the water. You will need to use alkaline, otherwise the metal parts within the pool will start to rust. The water will also begin to look misty green in colour. Once you see rusty parts, you will have to drain off the pool and replace them. This can be time consuming, or expensive if you have to call in the services of swimming pool engineers. The most expensive item that could be damaged by this is the pool filtering system. You have to guard against too much alkaline powder. This could allow the proliferation of germs and make the water cloudy. You are advised to use ‘brand’ name powders and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines
- For controlling the algae and bacteria, you would use the chlorine powder. It is necessary to use large quantities of this powder, as the organisms multiply rapidly.
Chlorine powder is very expensive. Before buying anything, ensure that you have check to see the quantities that you are going to need. It is impossible to avoid the use of these chemicals, as they are the only thing stopping the advance of the organisms!
