Earning An Education Is So Important For Your Future

By Otto On November 23, 2010 Under Reference and Education

The healthcare field is one area that is projected to grow by leaps and bounds over the next two decades.  New healthcare legislation and the growing number of older people, make this field even more vital than it was before.  Thousands of new nurses will be needed to help staff the many doctor’s offices, hospitals and clinics that will be serving an aging and growing populace. Find the right top nursing schools to get you going in the right direction.

Those who are interested in becoming nurses will have a number of job types to choose from.  Depending on the degree level, those who enter this field will be doing a great variety of different things, from caring for patients, to administering and managing large nursing staffs.  It’s up to the student to decide what kind of career she or he wants to create.

Those who hold a certification as a licensed practical nurse accomplish the basic duties of nursing.  They are directly involved in patient care and complete tasks such as drawing blood, taking temperatures, and monitoring blood pressure.  Licensed practical nurses work under the supervision of registered nurses and doctors.  LPN programs last about one year and are usually completed at a community college or vocational school.

At the two-year degree level, a nurse can be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN).  Registered nurses are licensed by the state in which they practice after they pass a state exam.  Registered nurses have a great deal more responsibility for a patient’s care than a nurse at the LPN level.  It is common for Registered Nurses to work with doctors on staff to help arrange the care a patient will receive.

With a bachelors degree in nursing, online degree students receive much more technical and medical training.  Nurses with a bachelors degree also are generally paid at a higher rate than those with two year degrees or LPN certifications.  Additionally, with a bachelors degree, nurses also receive administrative training that allows them to move into management and administrative positions.

Many nurses choose to continue their educational pursuits.  One of the most popular nursing masters degrees is in hospital management.  Others choose to teach, or to receive masters degrees in nursing administration.

With the job field expected to grow and the need for nurses becoming more urgent, salaries are extremely competitive.  A registered nurse with a bachelors degree earned a median annual salary of $63,750 in 2009.  The top ten percent of earners held a median annual salary of $93,700.

Nurses also have the option to work in a variety of environments.  They can choose to work in a hospital, a doctor’s office, or even a clinic if that is the area they are interested in.  Nursing jobs often come with a range of benefits; from health insurance to child care options.  Choosing a career in nursing can lead to a lifetime of career satisfaction.  Not only will you be entering a healthy career field with growth, you will enjoy a good salary, too.  The generous salary will definitely offset the cost of your education after only a few years of work.  The benefits of helping others can’t be quantified, but you can be assured there is a great deal of satisfaction in it.

People who choose to become nurses via online nursing schools often do so because they want to help others.  The good news is that they will be helping themselves, too, because they are choosing a job with growth and financial security.  A job in nursing will not only be rewarding, it will also be challenging and exciting.
