All Relationships Bring Things Into Them
Bringing the right stuff into a relationship will be important 100% of the time, and though just about every relationship brings stuff to it, whether it’s physical or more intangible, just about every marriage professional says that it’s important for both in the relationship to decide what stuff eventually enters it. This is as true for furniture as it is for children.
For any man who is in a relationship, it’s important that he understand that he must never just go off and spend a ton of money on an expensive toy, such as a brand-new boat. It may be that he and his significant other can certainly afford to do so but failing to discuss such an important financial decision ahead of time will generally lead to a lot of pain, and hopefully it’s only of the physical variety.
Or maybe the man was once a pretty good musician and plays a mean guitar from the southpaw (left) side of the plate. He might want that brand-new $4000 left handed electric guitar but if he’s not working hand-in-hand with his significant other in the relationship to figure out just when the right time is to buy it he’s going to really get himself hurt, and hopefully not in more than a physical sense.
Almost all relationships work better when they are looked at by the two people in the relationship as a real partnership. When it comes to the accumulation of actual physical things in the relationship, such as the brand-new GE oven for the brand-new kitchen, discussing it and hashing it out well ahead of time is a good way of helping one to figure out what’s truly wanted and what is really needed. There’s a difference between the two, honestly.
It’s when babies start entering into a relationship that things can get really complicated. In fact, there are so many ways to get things wrong when babies are involved that it’s easier to try to list the things that one can get right. Men should never even think about going out and buying expensive baby items such as a Graco stroller without first consulting with the mother of the baby ahead of time. She may not like that particular stroller, as a matter of fact.
One immutable truth about relationships is that each and every one of them will take work and effort. In fact, learning that a relationship takes work and effort also requires work and effort. In other words, it means we all have a great deal of information to learn about why relationships founded purely upon physical stuff never seem to work as well as those founded upon intangible things.
While it’s certainly a fact that all relationships bring things into them, it’s important that at least the most important things that are gathered to the relationship be intangible and not purely physical like merchandise or expensive stuff. So keep that in mind when you think you’re ready to enter into a serious relationship with someone.
