Looking ForCompression Tights/Stockings?

By Otto On August 12, 2010 Under Women's Interests

As with any type of hosiery, there are a number of types of compression tights available. Which one you go for will are a rule depend on which one is recommended to you, but first it might be beneficial to define what compression hosiery actually is.

Typically compression tights and stockings are used only for medical problems such as if you have a vein problem. They’re a particularly tight form of hosiery, worn to improve blood circulation in the legs.

Wearing such tights may be able to help you to avoid varicose veins in the legs. This can typically cause swelling in the legs and ankles and can be an extremely painful condition.

The pressure from the tights may be able to help to reduce this. This might help reduce the onset and severity of varicose veins, can help to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and can reduce swelling and general discomfort of the leg.

However this type of tight may be prescribed for people for many other reasons

Compression stockings and tights provide a graduation of pressure as you go up the leg, and are tighter around the feet and ankles. However it is usually the tightest at the ankles as this is typically where the main problems are. Because they’re so tight they can be particularly difficult to put on, and you will usually have to get them specially fitted by your doctor to make sure you’ve got the right size and the most appropriate grade of compression.

Once you’ve got them on though, they don’t look any different to regular hosiery. You can get on with your day, safe in the knowledge that you don’t look out of place but always knowing that you’re doing your legs some good.

Support tights are similar to compression tights, but they’re more for the general public who have aching legs and minor varicose vein problems. Compression tights, on the other hand, are medically advised and are for those that have more serious problems. As a rule compression tights are ordered by your Doctor.
